Background of the Study
Journalistic integrity is a cornerstone of credible media, ensuring that news reporting is accurate, fair, and unbiased. In Wukari Local Government Area, Taraba State, the perception of journalistic integrity significantly influences public trust in media organizations. Factors such as ethical lapses, sensationalism, and political affiliations of journalists and media houses often shape public opinion on journalistic integrity. In recent years, concerns about misinformation, biased reporting, and unethical practices have prompted debates on the role of journalists in upholding professional standards. Scholars emphasize that journalistic integrity is vital for fostering transparency, accountability, and democratic participation (Ibrahim & Okafor, 2024; Yusuf, 2023). This study examines public perceptions of journalistic integrity in Wukari, highlighting its implications for media credibility and public trust.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the critical role of journalistic integrity in shaping public opinion, media organizations in Wukari face challenges such as ethical breaches, political interference, and declining public trust. These issues undermine the credibility of the media and hinder its ability to serve as an objective information source. While previous studies have explored journalistic ethics broadly, limited attention has been given to localized perceptions of integrity in Wukari (Abdullahi & Musa, 2023; Bello, 2024).
